About the case:
A Phoenix woman was sentenced to life in prison for a murder in August 2009 because she didn’t appreciate that the victim was a self-professed snitch. She impaled, tortured, and stabbed the 46-year-old disabled victim Terry Neely. The torture went on for 3 days before she finally strangled him with a television cord on August 5th, 2009. She then decided to dismember him and set the pieces of his body on fire behind a church in a dumpster. Fire crews were called out to the Covenant of Grace Church at Ninth and Peoria avenues at about 5 a.m. to deal with a garbage can that was burning in the back parking lot. As they were dousing the flames, firefighters spotted a badly charred body stuffed inside the garbage can.
According to autopsy results, Neely sustained multiple blunt-force head injuries and a 3-inch nail had been driven or hammered into his brain. He was also stabbed approximately 50 times, his throat was sliced and he was dismembered. Simpson already was in jail on an unrelated armed robbery charge when she was interviewed by police and admitted that to Neely’s murder. Simpson was sentenced by Judge Paul McMurdie to natural life in prison, plus 14 years for other charges.
This crime to date is considered one of the most gruesome and cruel murders in the history of the state of Arizona. What really added to the media spotlight was the brazen jailhouse interview given by Angela Simpson to 3TV reporter Mike Vatkiss, where she openly admitted to killing Terry and said that if the opportunity provided itself again she hopes she could kill.
Angela claimed that she killed Neely because he was a snitch, which was later determined to be untrue. On the day she was sentenced she said that her only regret was not being able to keep him alive for a week so she could have tortured him longer before killing him. She believes that snitches and child molesters should be killed...period.
The interview with 3TV was filled with many shocking statements and contradictions. She claimed that the death sentence would have been justice implying Terry Neely deserved justice while she herself showed him no mercy. She also had previously implied that Terry was not her first victim, a statement she later clarified in the interview as being misinterpreted.
Her salacious and shocking interview made a comeback in people's news cycle when a popular TikTok trend had users doing voiceovers to some of her famous cold-blooded lines from the 3TV interview. Most users probably didn't realize who they were imitating and just thought they were making a cool video with some badass pre-recorded lines.
